I am an award-winning university teacher.
I have taught in Australia and the United States over 15 years.
Undergraduate Courses taught (each multiple times):
Physics 1 with calculus
Physics 2 with calculus
Interdisciplinary science laboratories
Modern Physics
Quantum Mechanics
Statistical Mechanics
Computational Physics (new course developed by me)
Biophysics (new course, partly developed by me)
Nanomaterials (new course, partly developed by me)
Graduate Courses taught:
Mathematical Physics
Quantum Mechanics
Statistical Mechanics
Electromagnetism
Curriculum development:
New undergraduate Computational Physics course using Mathematica (2015) to address employer demands and incorporate hands-on learning.
Implementation of Python coding throughout the undergraduate curriculum (2020-2022) in response to employment trends.
Writing new Biophysics course (2021). This course blends traditional topics in statistical mechanics and diffusion with biophysics applications. Student evaluations of 10/10 from 2022 onward.
Mentoring:
I have mentored 13 undergraduate, 1 masters, 6 PhD and 3 postdoctoral ressearchers in Australia, USA and New Zealand.
I mentor new university physics teachers through discussions, sharing resources, and observing lessons.
Peer evaluations of teaching:
"These notes are fantastic!!!!" (on Quantum Mechanics lectures, 2021) -- Dr Rair Macedo, University of Glasgow, UK
"I am part of the Karen fan club. I understand some things now after working for 10 years in this field.” (on Magnetic Nanoparticle lectures, 2022) -- Professor Maria Moros, NanoBioSurf group, Universidade de Zaragoza, Spain
“Dr. Livesey is an exceptional teacher, who balances rigor with accessibility in explaining complex concepts in physics ... I wish all my students had the opportunity to learn from her.” (on Magnetic Nanoparticle lectures, 2022) -- Professor Carlos Rinaldi-Ramos, Chair of Chemical Engineering, University of Florida, USA
"Computational projects are well done." (on the new python labs at Newcastle, 2023) -- Professor John Essick, Reed College, USA.
(Fulbright Fellow at Newcastle and expert on undergraduate laboratories.)
